Title: Indigenous self-determination in health system reforms

With increasing numbers of Indigenous land claims, self-governments and transfers of authority for health services to Indigenous governments, there has been an increase in scholarship and learnings around Indigenous health policy. This special issue creates an opportunity to share Indigenous experiences and highlight promising practices for health policy and system reform. This issue will create an opportunity for Indigenous governments, governance experts, and health policy leaders to share experiences in the development of health policy for Indigenous led and designed health systems and services in Canada.

Health Reform Observer – Observatoire des Réformes de Santé (HRO-ORS) invites papers for a special issue exploring Indigenous health systems and policy reforms that have been designed and implemented by Indigenous governments, Indigenous health authorities, and communities. Examples of submissions that will be considered include analyses of reforms that advance self-determination in health and community wellness, incorporate traditional healing, address systemic racism, and enhance Indigenous workforce.  Comparative analyses of Indigenous governments’ approaches to system reforms are also welcome.

The call excludes letters to the editor and commentaries.

Deadline for full manuscript submissions: February 25th, 2022

Anticipated publication: Fall, 2022
